Bitstamp Review

exchange-bitstamp
Bitstamp is one of the biggest exchanges. It is based in the EU (Slovenia). It won a start up of the year award, however we do not recommend trading at bitstamp at the moment.

Ease of use
Bitstamp has a good design and is very easy to use. You can deposit fiat with wire transfer or SEPA.

Security
There is not a manditory 2FA. The site has been attacked via DDOS but there are no documented cases of it being hacked allthough it has been speculated that they were hacked sometime in 2013. Bitstamp was on the list of exchanges that there was a bug in their SSL but Bitstamp responded quickly and has temporarly suspended new account registrations. Since then Bitstamp has improveed their security.

Trust
We know who is behind the exchange and there is no reason to think that they are insolvent. However, in 2013 some people have had long delays withdrawing fiat and/or been asked questions (where did you get these bitcoins, how long have you had them?). This raises some questions about trust and leaves a bad memory of long withdraw delays at fallen exchange Mt.Gox. Lately there has been a lot more claims of people having trouble withdrawing fiat from Bitstmp.  There have also been accusations users being “scalped” by misleading trading fees. Sinc then things have improved and is currently seeking investors.
